I have numerous food allergies that range from moderate to deadly. Additionally, I have a thyroid disease and have been instructed to avoid soy products. I
always carry some snacks that are safe for me to eat anywhere I go. I
never expect an airline (or tour provider) to get it right, and am prepared for various scenarios where either travel delays don't allow time to get a meal, or there is nothing suitable being offered in flight. There are plenty of prepackages and relatively shelf stable products easily available in most markets.
It's well known that George Best has been a hot mess and few amenities are operating, it's been all over the news. For what is a short flight, I would think you would have been able to find something to eat in London if he had arrived hungry. If you got home that late, then perhaps eating before going to the airport would have been prudent.
People with various dietary concerns need to have a back up and take some responsibility for themselves, as mistakes do happen.
