10/29 AA 529 LAX-MIA 6:00 am departure, T-72, SDC worked like a charm, and I picked the last J seat for AA1535 11:00 departure.
10/30 AA 1228 MIA-LAX 8:35 departure, not upgraded, and J is all full for all flights that day other than mine, which has only 1 purchasable seat now. So I don't think it will happen. May SDC to the 2:00 pm departure but probably I won't.

As others mentioned, great fare on this route, yet they fill up very fast within 1 week of departure. I can also see the availability of J seats on each flight is very volatile even within the day of departure. Sometimes there can be 9 J seats open, then a few hours later down to 1, back up with 5, etc. Overall, the overnight departure out of LAX seems to be sold out first.
