Ordinarily, I would just book the flight to the final destination, but I believe Japan has 14 days quarantine rule at the port of entry, and not at the final destination.
In this case, would I have to book two separate tickets? So I'll basically be wasting $ on the domestic connection? Given the circumstances, anyway I can call AA to include the domestic flight that will have to happen after 14 days after quarantine as a "connecting" flight?
My wife just went through all of this, I have a thread on this somewhere. I would check the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (mofa.go.jp) as the quarantine can be 10 days, not sure if its for all or only those fully vaccinated. We used a partner award ORD-HND on JL, but AA would not allow ORD-HND-OKA over 24 hours despite the quarantine, so she needed 2 separate awards. When investigating the CK agents told me it would be the same with a paid ticket, so I am assuming its the best information, I spoke to a few agents I have known for years at the CK desk.

Good news is there are cheap airport hotels and they do let you leave the room and even go outside, not sure why you even quarantine in that case, just no public transportation and don't go "too far" from the hotel. You do need to download apps and they do call you daily. Also get the PCR test to end the quarantine at the airport, much cheaper, but just remember you cant take public transportation to get back to the airport. Unfortunately we became all too knowledgeable in the process... Good luck!
