Regarding the seating on the flights to/from Kangaroo Island.

Qantas doesn't allow seat selection on planes with props (QantasLink flights) until online check in open. When online check in open everyone is automatically assigned a seat (generally front to back by status) and whilst you can change often if it's a full flight there won't be many options left.
