best way to book a hotel with points?
Hello, I hope I am in the right forum thread.
I just booked a flight to Iceland for November and I need to book a car and a hotel. I'd like to use points for that.
I have a lot of points on IHG so I thought I'd use those but the only 2 hotels they have in Iceland are a Mr&Mrs Smith ones that run at 45-50k points per night so for a week stay it comes out to 272000 points which seems way too many points to spend on a hotel (agree?) since with the Chase rewards points I can get a hotel for 5-8k/night = 30-50k points instead of 272k. After googling it seems the IHG points are worth 0.8 cents while the Chase ones 1-1.2 cents, so I figured since they are worth almost the same I should not spend 272k points on a hotel when I can spend 50k. Does this make sense? Am I making the right decision or am I missing something?
Also I wanted to ask if, to book a hotel, it makes more sense to choose the Chase Rewards redemption website, or weather I should book an AirBnB and then use the travel credits that Chase is offering for AirBnB or weather I should book any hotel with by Barclay Arrival+ card and then use the points I have there to pay for that as a statement credit.
I guess that's where I am at: wondering which card's points I should use and how to book a hotel in Iceland.
And the same goes for a rental car.
Thank you all in advance for your thoughts and expertise
