AA PRO vs AS 75K: Qualification Comparison (it's really close)

I did a quick number crunch to figure out how AA's new program stack up against AS's program on the OWE (PRO - 75K level). Surprisingly (or maybe rather unsurprisingly), the two program came really close in requirements.

AA Plat Pro - AS MVPG 75K Tier Requirement
AA PRO: 125k LP
AS 75K: 75k EQM

Let's first start with all OW carriers ex-AA, in this case, both AA and AS programs will be distance-based. Let's further assume the class of service bonus for that particular OW airline on AA is the same as AS (Biz: 25%, F: 50%). Suppose we are flying 1000mi (distance itself won't really matter, just to illustrate)

First Class (including AS F):
AA: 1000*(1+50% COS + 80% elite) = 2300LP (1.85% of PRO)
AS: 1000*(1+50% COS) = 1500EQM (2% of 75K)

Business Class:
AA: 1000*(1+25% COS + 80% elite) = 2050LP (1.64% of PRO)
AS: 1000*(1+25% COS) = 1250EQM (1.67% of 75K)

Economy Class**:
AA: base_rate * 1000*(1 + 80% elite) = 1800LP (1.44% of PRO) * base_rate
AS: base_rate * 1000 = 1000EQM (1.33% of 75K) * base_rate
**If the base mile earning rate is the same for AA vs AS, then compasiron-wise they can be ignored.
**But if they are different (such as on AS metal, the base_rate for AS MileagePlan is always 100% whereas on AAdvantage it could be 0%-100%), the number need to be re-calculated

Conclusion: AS 75K and AA PRO re-qual is about the same difficulty if flying OW partners. On AS, of course, AS MP will have an advantage since AS members always earn 1EQM on AS regardless of their fare class (even including Saver Fares)

Flying on AA:
Suppose you want to earn 1000 AS EQM
-Qualification wise that's equivalent to 1667 AA LP (percentage to qual threshold)
-Which equals 1667 / 9 = $185 in base fare

Conclusion: You need to spend less than $185 to generate 1000 AS EQM for AS MP to be advantageous. Note that many AA fare class earn less than 1 AS EQM per mile flown, this might not be easy. (Will tend to favor cheap, long, business class fares).

Overall I have to say the AA new program is really well thought out. It keeps people in the program by making re-qualification easier than initial qualification, and in general, it is competitive against AS MP in terms of elite status. (AS still have a much better redemption program though)
