Funnily enough with the increasing number of staycations we've done in HK this year, well in fact the entirety of our stays have been staycations in this tiny sealed-off territory this year, we've been complaining to each other about the exact same thing.

For staycations, we stay in for the evening and will watch a movie off the MacBook or iPhone on the TV via HDMI and the difference in watchability and picture quality between the cheap-looking video on the massive TVs in hotels and our own massive TV at home that is correctly set up is quite stark. There's little point watching the latest Marvel movie in HD when the hotel TV distractingly displays it like cheaply produced video. Motion soothing really does cheapen the viewing experience and reduces the apparent production values of the show.

Little we can do about it apart from hope we can travel again in 2022 and we won't be spending hotel nights in the room just for a desperate change of scenery. Motion smoothing makes wine taste worse too.
