when i went to a mardi gras ball a few years ago, I had my fancy ball gown cleaned and when i went to pick it up, he had stuffed the arms and bodice with tissue paper, and lots of tissue in the layers of the net stuff under the skirt, then put the whole thing in plastic. When i told him i was gonna have to take the tissue out to pack the dress, he ran in the back, brought out this huge cardboard box and gently laid my dress in there...packed more tissue around to hold it in place.....I addressed it to my grandma's house in Louisiana and had UPS pick it up there the next day. So much easier than worrying about wrinkling it (of course, coming home, I just kinda rolled it up and stuffed it into a carry on bag)
