But as the UK doesn't count people in and out of the country, how accurate is that 5 million? I do not dispute there are plenty who do need to book their job, but I also personally know of several people who have been outside of the UK for more than 5 years with no GP contact at all and are getting the blue invite envelopes at their last known UK address. Even looking at more recent departures, student residential addresses are literally littered with them.

As for why school age children are driving the infection at the moment, I think we need to put some blame at the door of the JCVI and the CMOs. What a farce it was when JCVI said "we can't recommend the vaccine purely on health grounds only for 12-15 year olds", only for the CMOs to then recommend it for the "wider medical benefit" a week or so later. And then for England to solely depend on the Schools vaccine service to roll out the jabs, when parents couldn't be easily present, no wonder it's all a bit of a mess. How did we manage to do so well for the original rollout and make such a mess of the end of it?
