Just to let you know, TK doesn't charge for special meals and you should be able to request it for free. The agent you spoke to gave you misinformation regarding that.
However, it's true that you need to request special meals more in advance.

I am not 100% sure if there is a vegetarian option in main courses; there might be or not, but most likely the starter and dessert would contain no meat.
