I took a quick trip (5 days) to CDMX a couple of weeks ago to visit my in-laws. First international trip since the pandemic began so long ago. Some observations:
-- Flew United SMF-SFO-MEX and return.
-- SFO-MEX-SFO in business which is essentially like domestic F. Food and beverages offered up front but economy pax didn't even have a "buy on board"option apparently.
-- SFO-SMF was cancelled due to one of the Skywest pilots not showing up for work. UA put me up overnight at the airport Doubletree and provided US$20 in food vouchers (all automatically issued through the United app...didn't have to wait in line and didn't have to talk to anyone at United...nicely executed by UA).
-- MEX airport immigration line was over 90 minutes for foreigners and Mexican passport bearers weren't fairing much better. Connecting pax had to fend for themselves and push through to get through immigration or risk missing their flights...there was nobody I could see helping them out.
-- Oh my return the SFO immigration hall was virtually empty on a Thursday evening but still nice to have Global Entry.
-- Nobody cared to see the VueloSergura app (online Covid questionnaire & QR code) entering or leaving Mexico City. I completed it anyway just in case.
-- Most people wore masks even while outdoors in Mexico City. Many stores, shopping malls and restaurants had mandatory hand sanitization stations and temperature checks to enter; mask wearing required except when eating/drinking.
-- I used Quest Diagnostics Lab (several locations) in Tlalnepantla, Edo. de Mex. for my Covid PCR test required to board flights to the USA. They have a special through end of October 2021 of 399 MXP (~US$20) for the test. Covid tests at this lab, located in Colonia Valle Dorado at Multiplaza Valle Dorado were offered daily between 11:00am and 1:00pm. Initial results available within 30 minutes; final results available next day. You could have the final results e-mailed to you or drop by the lab and pick them up. I did the latter on the way to the airport. While waiting for the results I got some lunch at the neighboring shopping mall.
