An update: I just talked to another agent but he was only able to select seats free of charge for me, not for my wife even though we are under the same booking. I don't know if Iberia changed their policies but I think its really strange that both passengers on the booking need to have OW status to select their seats free of charge.
I had this issue before too. The solution was: The agent had to delete the frequent flyer number from the PNR, close the PNR, retrieve it and add it once again so that it shows up including the status. It seems that that has not properly worked when booking through BA (ExecClub in that case). I believe in another case I was able to add the number myself after the booking in "Manage my booking" on BA.com. Afterwards the seat selections worked and 1 extra free bag was accepted.
I had also trips where the boarding pass said that I would not have one free bag but on the airport they checked it in without trouble. In those cases I had printed copy of the OW benefits table with me - in case anybody would start to question my status benefits.
