Ironically they are not saving any money by doing this. It cost them nothing to offer the emailed .pdf. This is definitely disappointing.
I don't think that's necessarily true. The engineers that build and maintain the system costs money. The computer system it runs on costs money. The license to generate the pdfs might cost money.
