Two important fact checks:
- VIA Rail is 1.5 h from Dorval to Ottawa.. I did it last month, in fact:

- While I agree there are more amenities @ YUL, the shuttle bus does not run on a fixed schedule. So relying on it for a tight cnx. could be problematic. On my trip in September, I ended up taking a ghost cab to the VIA Rail Station - cost me $17 and then the train was late! (which it is tonight BTW)..

The other option is, of course, flying to the US and transting IAD or EWR.
