I think even the one year I had 100 nights, I only had something like 60K base points, which included a few work travel stays where I had a few rooms paid for under my name. But generally, I accumulate too many nights at cheap hotels, mostly good quality full service hotels but in cheap places like Tulsa, Dallas, Wichita, etc. I doubt my base points will ever out-distance my night count. ((With AA AAdvantage, however, my EQD/EQM metrics are so stubbornly equal that waivers for one, but not the other, feel like some terrible mind-game))
This year, I have 62 nights, but only 4,242 base points! Just way too many certificates and points being earned from the promos that I've been spending down, with good point redemption values too (always more than 2 cnt/pt). I think I only paid for 1 night the entire year -- the majority of those base points are from small bits of incidental spend on the 35sh free nights I had on certificates and points. The rest of the nights were double counted from that promo last Fall/winter and from the CC. So, this year, I am just grifting...
But, there are definitely high rollers in this forum that get status from spend! Generally speaking though, when you are spending that much per night, you aren't as interested/engaged in all of the tidbits of freebies in the awards program. So, they mostly just active in the property specific threads.
