The tricky part is what happens if you don't reach Platinum by this time.
Beware: if your anniversary date is after Dec 31st, 2021, you will not be eligible for automatic renewal. So you will be downgraded to silver and start with 0 XP, and your road to Platinum will require 180 XP (to be Gold again) + 300 XP (to go from Gold to Plat) = 480 XP
If your anniversary date is on or before Dec 31st, you will have free status renewal but you will still lose your 150 XP. In this case, your road to platinum will need a whole 300 XP.

Many thanks! Yes, it would be before the renewal (likely mid-Dec).
Basically, I have flights booked to take me to 230 XPs by mid-Dec (so I would be guaranteed Gold for another year anyway), and wondering if I should fit in an extra trip to make it up to 300. Looks like it's worth it - if only to secure Plat for a year, then soft landing to Gold the year after... doesn't seem like the benefits of Plat over Gold are that great.
