This is about advance schedule changes, not IROPS.
I was notified of a schedule change of more than 2 hours but less than 4 hours (longer connection resulting in later arrival). Domestic AA flights, regular economy, no codeshares, ticketed through an agent (Amex Travel).
The best option close to my original time is a co-terminal destination, per the co-terminal list in the
AA schedule change agency reference. That document, however, is unclear on whether I qualify for this change. Amex Travel told me no, but now, having looked at the document, I wonder if it is worth trying again.
The document lists "May offer co-terminals for AA Prime flights only if the flight times are closer to the original schedule" under the section "Schedule Change is greater than 4 hours (241+ minutes)" but does not include this language under the section "Schedule Change is 4 hours or less". Case closed, I can't use a co-terminal with a change under 4 hours, right?
But... under the separate section "Basic Economy", it says:
For any change to the length of flight time, or changes from a non-stop to connection, or an invalid connection, follow the below guidelines:
...
- May offer co-terminals for AA Prime flights only if the new flight times are closer to the original schedule
My flights are not BE, but surely should have
at least as much protection as BE, and it doesn't say co-terminals require a change over 4 hours for BE.
And, under the separate heading "
Co-Terminals/Multiple Airport Cities - AA Prime Flight Only", it says:
Customers who are traveling to/from a co-terminal location may be changed to an alternate co-terminal airport, if requested, for AA Prime or AA*/Codeshare segments only, provided the flights times are closer to the original schedule.
There is
no mention here of a 4 hour requirement.
As a comparison, under another heading "300 Mile Radius" immediately preceding this one, it says:
agency may rebook to an alternate AA, AA*/JB, or JB Prime airport that is within a 300-mile radius of the affected ticketed city and within the same
country.
Rebooking to an alternate airport is allowed only under the following conditions:
- Service to the ticketed airport has been discontinued
- The Schedule Change is greater than 4 hours (241 min)
- The Schedule Change creates an invalid connection
- ...
This is to illustrate that the absence of a 4 hour requirement in the
co-terminal rule is meaningful.
So, I consider the document quite confusing on my situation. What is the correct interpretation in practice?
