I wouldn’t bother driving across, it’s very straight forward to walk across, often you’re simply waved through by border control as a foot pedestrian. The only issue is how windy it gets walking across the runway but it’s a great experience to be stood in the middle of runway if you’re heading into town. Terminal is on the left as you approach from Spanish side.
