Do we open up the existing reservation and there's a link that allows the free companion to be added? Usually a PNR with one name can't be changed to two names so that's what I'm wondering.
Once you get notice of the CP - you then add in the designated person. then you go to any open reservations under YOUR name and click "Add companion". Bingo. done.
If you do not change the Companion, it will always be there. You can not book both at EXACTLY the same time. You always book yourself, and then a few minutes later you can add the companion. If the flight is way into the future (a few months), I usually do not book her right up front.
