The levels on FB switch from Silver -> Gold -> Platinum. Each time you level up, your XP counter deducts the required amount of XP. This means that when you get to Gold, 180 XP will be taken out of your account at that moment. From that moment, you will then need to accumulate ≥300 XP again to get Platinum status.
For you, since you started at the very bottom and are trying to get to Platinum in one year, this means you need to get 100 XP (for Silver) + 180 XP (for Gold) + 300 XP (for Silver) = 580 XP. Since you have already hit the 100 XP for Silver, now you still need to get 480 XP more to gain Platinum status.
That said, your 12 month counter reset on the day you qualified for Silver. So you now have 12 months within which you can get the next 180 XP to get to Gold. Once you get to Gold, your timer will reset and you will have another 12 months to get another 300 XP to reach Platinum. So you don't have to get the entire 580 XP in one calendar year only.
However, once you reach a specific status, to maintain that status you must get the 100/180/300 XPs within the 12 month period that applies to you, which is based on the date you acquired that status (for older elites its 31 Dec).
