I am sure this has been beaten to death here, but I hope anyone who has done this can confirm.
I have an award trip starting in 3 weeks booked with Mileage Plus - I do not have status anymore on UA

If I cancel now, I have to pay 125$
Can I just change the ticket for free to a date 6 months out - for no Fee?
then cancel a few weeks later for no fee ?
