It all worked out fine and everyone, surprisingly for SMF (IMO), was well behaved. The flight ended up solely 35' delayed into LAX, which isn't that odd for a number of reasons.
I felt bad for the GA, who was clearly overworked and not getting assistance: normally there are at least 2 to hand, but she was alone, faced with an overbooked flight, and several passengers among the "travel once a decade" set (i.e. lots of handholding). It was more a novelty than anything else - much like being onboard the Langoliers flight - a quiet, empty aircraft with many looking around wondering what had happened.
