Airlines generally give status benefits and mileage credit to passengers who book through travel agencies. However, there are sometimes reduced fares that are not available through agencies.

Hotel chains generally do not give status benefits or award points to guests who book through online travel agencies. The underlying economics are entirely different than the airline business.
