based on recent personal experience...
a) if you are traveling (as a gold), you can make changes fee free. if the ticket is issued for someone else and you want to make a change you must pay the fee
b) if a ticket was issued using miles from your account (as a gold), the miles are redeposited fee free as well regardless of who the ticket was issued for. also, you will receive a refund for the taxes (security fee) you paid. miles are back in your account within 15 minutes of canceling.
<to which i have learned if you want to make a change to a ticket you had issued for someone else and they havent travelled at all yet on that ticket you should simply cancel the ticket and have a new one issued (pending award space being available)>
