I actually wonder if ONT's QR codes will work. The fact that they have their own verifier bothered me. QC did the same thing, claimed to use SMART cards, and then modified things just enough to make QC codes not work in other SMART readers and make other SMART cards not work in the QC verifier. Every single non-Canadian SMART QR code works with this tool.
With QC, someone in QC tried to scan their code with the above tools and it returned an error. I tried to scan my California issued SMART code with the QC system and it errored. I just did the same with ONT's system, and it didn't work.
Before you buy any airline tickets, you probably want to make sure that your QR code actually will work. Because I strongly suspect singapore is just going to use the common scanner developed by the SMART people, they're not going to have one just for QC or just for ON.
Also, I have no idea why Canadian provinces are continuing to do this. Adopt a common standard and then break is just enough that it won't work in other provinces or the US seems wild to me.
