That's exactly what's happening. These lower-end properties can have staff that are--shall we say--less than professional.
Raise a ruckus with Hilton corporate. You've done enough.
[So, am I correct that they called you and just said, "We don't have room for you--go elsewhere," and didn't offer any options or compensation at all? If so, that's outrageous. You deserve the $200, plus a refund of your first night wherever you stayed, plus a boatload of points--I'd say at least 25,0000.]
