When longer than 24 hours, it is not a layover per se but a stopover. This means your intermediate point is the destination of travel on that day. So unfortunately you will not be able to through-check your luggage.

However, you would be entitled to rerouting fulfilling your original planned itinerary and would be justified in asking for rebooking. Whether that is available in a better form than you already have is uncertain depending on your routing. If you give us more details on your planned and rebooked itinerary I'm sure we can make some alternative suggestions.
