About 18 months ago, I got my bp at the airport and got a call I didn't need to make the trip right before boarding. I took the bp back to the ticket counter and got a refund. It never got scanned at the gate. I noticed several days later I got full credit as if I'd have made that flight. Don't know if it still happens or how it works with internet checkin though. I haven't tried it again.
