I still don't understand why the 757 line is being closed. Boeing already wasted a bunch of money researching the (SuperCruiser?), the plane that would fly just below the speed of sound. Now Boeing is going to waste how many billions developing the 7E7?
If I remember the stats correctly, the 757 has the second lowest operating cost per seat mile (second only to the 747), and has the lowest fuel burn rate per seat mile, something that I would think is important with today's high fuel costs. Plus, it has commonality with the 767, which saves training costs.
I know airlines can be pretty stupid, but surely they are not so stupid as to be plane shopping like a spoiled teenage girl, demanding something catchy and sylish instead efficient and proven.
