When you do something/go somewhere that you expect to be different like moving to a foreign country or responding to a global pandemic, you expect there to be a lot of changes so the shock isn't that bad, even if things aren't how you want them. It's the return to the way things were that results in more surprises. Airports used to be crazy crowded. It's actually been kind of nice with the reduced number of travelers, even if it sometimes seems everybody forgot how to use an airport. Even 80% of 2019 levels is like being transported back to the mid 1990s.
Agreed, I recall checking in at LHR post gulf war and remarking that it was a zooand asking had there been an IT problem ( it was BA so a safe bet ) and was told " just back to normal "
