I think it’s more of an airport design problem. There’s no graceful way to wait at C and D gates because the space is very limited. On one side there’s walkway and you can’t block people from walking down the terminal, and the other side is the gate. With several 739 load of passengers… best solution is to get to the gate just in time.
The A and G gates @ SFO (International Terminal) are lovely. It isn't that there aren't some gate lice, but very limited. The boarding areas are sunken from the main corridor containing the walkways, restaurants, stores, etc. As for the SFO AS Gates (D) they aren't bad, and certainly much more pleasant than SEA C and D. Is it at the end of C or D that you actually have to make sure you're getting on the right plane at the right gate as they're so bunched up?
