My sister-in-law flew in yesterday from Fresno to watch the Bears -v- Raiders NFL game at Allegiant Stadium. She got here fine. She was due to fly back home at 8.29 pm last night. Her flight posted a delay, initially until 9.40 pm, then another delay until 10.25 pm, then another until 10.55 pm - when the flight was cancelled due to no flight crew being available. This is at Las Vegas, Allegiant's home base. Allegiant's stance in these situations is that you're on your own. The earliest she could rebook with Allegiant was Wednesday and, because of the Southwest debacle over the weekend, there were painfully few options with other airlines. Allegiant's T&Cs are that they'll rebook on the earliest available flight or else you can have a refund. They won't provide a hotel or reimburse you for any out of pocket expenses. She spent the night here, at our house. The only flight option that we could come up with was $1499 in J flying LAS - DFW - FAT so that wasn't an option. The only non-flight option was Amtrak: bus to Bakersfield and train to Fresno for $84. She turned that down in favour of having a friend drive 6 hours (the reality was more like 8) to come pick her up and then drive her home. By the time her friend arrived she was already regretting her choice: Amtrak would have got her home about 6 pm whereas she was looking at about 11 pm via car.

No matter how much we complain about BA they tend to do a pretty good job when it comes to looking after passengers when things go awry.
I had to google Allegiant air. Apparently it’s an “ultra low cost” airline? Sorry but you are comparing different things here. My experience with IRROPS with BA is pretty much the same I had with the other flag carrier such as Lufthansa or even Avianca. BA put me on a very nice hotel next to the airport in Athens. Same as Avianca did (to my surprise).
