There's no way to be 100% sure that an upgrade will be available before you book unless you call. HOWEVER, if you do a booking search for your flight and you select "pay with miles" and you see that your particular flight has "regular"/nonQ2 business class award availability, then it probably will have upgrades available. Most of the time this has worked for me but not every time.
