Not sure about the email, but there is the direct link to the Hilton page on the topic which has:

" Diamond members will receive both the Daily Food & Beverage Credit and 1,000 Bonus Points at all brands listed above except for Hilton Garden Inn, where Diamond members can choose between the credit or 750 Bonus Points. Visit your MyWay profile to select your preferences before your next stay."

So, this exception just applies to HGI. Hard to believe it was worth the trouble to treat HGI differently, but seems to be the case.
