Auto-cancellation of the return leg of a round trip when the first leg isn't complete
Apologies in advance for the short novel.
My family and I got caught up in the ATL meltdown on Friday (Oct 8) night. We were traveling from BOS to TPA, but weather killed pretty much all connections to Florida. Saturday flights all had 30,40,50+ people in standby and after our first shot at an AM departure was cancelled due to lack of pilots, we decided to rent one of the few remaining cars and drive the rest of the way.
Since we didn't complete the trip to TPA, I called customer service to verity that our return from TPA to BOS would not be cancelled. The agent, who was having a very long day, noted that it was indeed marked for cancellation. He said he nixed that and added a note to indicate that it shouldn't be cancelled.
I'm paranoid that it's going to get cancelled and I'm going to go through insanity to even get back home. Had anyone else had to deal with similar situation? Any advice, stories, or anecdotes would be appreciated.
