The regular Amex Platinum is a charge card and has no preassigned credit limit. Of course that doesn't mean it's unlimited, but it's independent from your Amex credit cards. If you have a $20,000 credit line, spread across 3 credit cards, applying for the Amex Platinum, a charge card, is not going to affect this.
My advice: Just apply for the Amex Platinum normally, or get a referral link from one of your friends that already has the card. If anything, closing your Delta Platinum right before applying for the Amex Platinum could make Amex like you less. Good Luck.
