Is Hotel trying to charge cc in advance of reservation
I had a hotel contact me in advance of my upcoming reservation. My credit card expiration date recently passed. They asked for a new credit card to “place a one night's deposit on all 4 rooms.” It sounded like they are trying to charge card prior to arrival. The reservation clearly states this is not necessary. I asked them to explain what one night deposit entails and if this reservation did not require rooms to be prepaid, correct. The hotel then stated they need a credit card to “authorize it for the one nights room charge.” They never said they would not charge my credit card or answered my two questions directly.
At this point I was frustrated. I then email Hilton Honors and copied the manager. The manager replies “at NO point in my e-mail did it state that we would charge one night's deposit.” I thought on two indications proved otherwise - first time they said they would place one night deposit and the second time they would authorize credit card for one nights room charge.
I know some hotels require a deposit or a prepayment with no refund on some reservations. The reservation I made did not state this but I felt the manager was trying to get my credit card to do just this. I wanted assurance he wasn’t going to do this and he never provided that. Once I contacted Hilton Honors he tried to deny this and yet I have email that I feels proves otherwise. Very upset how the hotel manager has handled this.
