I had the same experience a few days ago. Certificates can be combined with points but not with cash. Guess I’m glad to hear I was treated per the correct policy although I would have had a preference in this case to pay $305 instead of 64,000 points. When you add the nearly 10k points I would have earned on the $289 base rate via the Aspire I only got 4.1 CPP.
On the other hand, if I hadn’t had the points in my account, I couldn’t have used the certs on our desired dates so maybe it was worth taking a slight haircut on the points.
