She didn’t do you a favour, this is long-standing policy. When you use a guc to upgrade and then a schedule change happens you’re supposed to be treated as a confirmed business class passenger… they will rebook you in any available flight regardless of guc availability.
except…MULTIPLE reports on here earlier this year that this was not being honored. So YMMV
