Prior to biometric boarding, I was once asked for ID at the gate travelling to Belfast. Although I had a driving license on me, I explored further. I said that I did not have any and that I did not need ID to travel within the UK. "OK, that's fine" came the reply. I wasn't trying to be funny - I just thought the staff member had forgotten where she was boarding to. But odd none the less.
