I've had great upgrade success this year - but I don't think any of them have cleared greater than the 24 hour mark - and some have been at the gate. Even wide open HNL-SFO or HNL-LAX 777-300 flights do a massive sweep at the 24 hour point and often clear 20+ people in one sweep.
