Can someone help me understand the timeliness of first-class upgrade on United. As a Premier Gold member, it drives me nuts that sometimes upgrades clear 48 hours before departure and some occasions I am standing at the gate waiting to board and the upgrade clears like 5 minutes before boarding. Are all upgrades manually done by gate agents? Wondering this has been driving me nuts. Any help is greatly appreciated
