If 1A and 2B are chosen, then you are correct that 1A will be climbing over 2B only.
A couple of issues to think about is that you will not be able to converse with each other properly and both of you will be staring at a stranger (1A with 1B etc) and during take off, descent and landing, the divider will have to be down. Other times, not a massive issue since you can put up the divider.
