Flight booked for another person Jan 2020 for a flight in April 2020. I cancelled it in March due to covid prior to any "free" covid cancellations were a thing. So I have a ticket number with a pretty large sum of money in someone else's name, that I'd like to use for myself.

Ticket is non-transferable, and spoke to an agent who agreed that ticket has to be made in her name. But, agent suggested I could book another ticket for her, apply the value of the original ticket, and any "remainder" would come back to me as an e-voucher that I could apply to myself.

So I'm thinking... find the least expensive ticket anywhere in the AA system and book it in the name of my friend, and then transfer the remaining balance to an evoucher and use for myself?

Am I thinking clearly on this one?
