Have a trip from the US to Denmark, will check in with UA (domestic + another *A carrier international, but I am guessing UA agent will do the document check). Passenger's passport expires more than 3 months from the return ticket date, but less than 6 months from the departure date.

My reading of various Schengen area info and Timatic suggests that "3 months from the return date" is sufficient. But - what does UA think? Anyone with experience/insight - would very much appreciate it.
i would say both United and the other airline, would be doing document check

United would be checking timatic (other airline will have similar website to lookup timatic)
https://www.united.com/en/us/timatic/

depending on your passport, it will spit out something like (using USA passport below, but without any transit point. you should fill out transit point too)
Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for a minimum of 3 months beyond the period of intended stay.
