Both the Hilton and the Doubletree are good for the eaton centre ( from the executive lounge in the Hilton Toronto you could see the doubletree downtown ( they are effectively on opposite sides of the Nathan Phillips square ( city hall) with the hilton being closer to the CN tower ( 10mins walk difference)
The hilton had a good pool and gym

Not sure on the executive lounge situation currently

Doubletree looks fine also

You can walk to the Eaton centre, CN tower , Union station from both ( or the subway is close to both)

Weekend ideas

CN Tower
Toronto islands ( on a nice day)
Ripley's Aquarium of canada ( by the CN Tower)
Casa Loma
Royal Ontario Museum / Gardiner museum)
Fort york
The distillery district for shops and dining
Eaton centre
Toronto railway museum ( in Roundhouse park by the CN Tower)
I would not stay towards the airport if you want to see toronto ( time consuming)

The Embassy suites is out by the airport ( you could consider the UP express between Pearson airport and Union station but is time consuming)
Regards

TBS

Enjoy Niagara Falls also!

Thank you for the comments and weekend idea list. I honestly don't know and am just guessing, but I'm hoping this month is a good window for Niagara Falls to be open but to not have the typical world-wide tourists (less crowds)

I was leaning towards the Embassy due to the photos, but I'll reconsider the downtown DT and Hilton if you and the other that posted recommend based on location.
