Another factor is that likely only web support can look into TravelBank, and those agents are typically all outsourced and in the foreign call centers, which generally makes it more difficult to bend the rules.
So I went to book my $59 flight to Vegas to use up the travelbank credit, not sure if it's policy now, but the $50 travelbank entry that had a 9/30/21 expiry now seems to have a 9/30/22 expiration date.
