I have been doing some more digging - and just to complicate things further

From USA to Italy, it is arrival minus 72 hours
From UK to Italy, it is arrival minus 48 hours.

So given this is flying from the US via the UK, what would/should the LAX AA check-in agent cross check against, who knows
