They could definitely spruce up the benefits but time will show how that goes
Playing the devil's advocate here, but one could also expect such frequent travellers to know the game and play it accordingly.
Granted, there's the very real issue of Ulti treatment being randomly offered. That's not good.
However, as far as the benefits level goes, nowhere does AF say that Ulti customers get a lot for flying 3x as much as a Platinum.
Many travellers just accept it and are happy with being SkyTeam Gold/Plat and reporting some of their flights to other alliances to become top-tier there too.
We know that the bang-for-your-buck peaks at Gold for AFLK. Plat status is marginally better, and Ultimate definitely not linearly correlated to the time/money spent on the air.
Gold is J ground service whatever the flying class, Ulti is not LP service whatever the flying class
