The Vanity Factor.
As leisure pax, and predominantly heading for a l/h destination, we always have hold luggage. Accordingly, our carry-ons are small and thus fit easily under the seat in front. Row 2 was therefore our natural and convenient choice for the short connecting sector from Jersey to UK. All worked admirably until 2015, when our elevation to the dizzy heights of “Honolulu Gold” inspired that “Row 1” urge that was hard to resist!
And so our travels inevitably start with an unseemly desire to be amongst the very first pax to board our A320, to ensure adjacent overhead space above 1A/C. Being served at the beginning of the F&B run is another factor, given that there’s realistically under 30 minutes (and often much less) to cram down the BA Breakfast. And, as a 6-footer, I like the extra leg-room!
BUT … I have to admit that (certainly for the quick 161 mile hop across The Channel) the more relaxed boarding/stowage associated with Row 2 is gaining some appeal. I wonder what I will decide to do when we get another booking?
